Architecture is an act of physical creation that has an instant dialogue with the place, often with great optimism to leave it better than before. Its value is measured in the feelings people have, and its presence over time, though often not as immediate as a few suns and moons.

Through architecture and what we discover in the local day to day, we craft spatial experiences that are meaningful.

In each project, we listen to the client’s needs and who they are very carefully, and try to channel those values as relevantly as we can in a spatial experience for people.

maos is a design office with emphasis in architecture, interior design, landscape, and planning.

maos is founded by Herman Mao, who holds a BA in Architecture from Washington University, and Master in Architecture, Master in City Planning, and Certificate in Urban Design from the University of Pennsylvania. He has worked at Architecture Studio in Paris, Tezuka Architects in Tokyo, Studio V Architecture in NYC, and Neri & Hu in Shanghai.
